Turning Zimbabwe into a Jewel of Africa by 2030

Turning Zimbabwe into a Jewel of Africa by 2030

Zimbabwe used to be the bread basket and industrial country. It was regarded as a jewel of Africa. zimbabwe is a rich country but has been poorly managed and corruption is the order of the day. USA imposed Zedra sanctions and target individual sanctions for many years.

Zimbabwe entered into a new dispensation led by President Mnangagwa to transform Zimbabwe to become a jewel of Africa in 2019, by launching vision 2030, believed to be a new transformative and inclusive development for the people. The vision was introduced in three stages, consistent with the collaboration and aspiration of the people of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe launched a transitional stabilization programme in 2018 to 2020 in a bid to set the economy on a recovery path after years of stagnation (Mthuli Ncube, 2019).

The second stage was to implement the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) for the period 2021-25. The NDS1 is a five-year plan aimed at realising growth through international mobilisation of domestic growth and the development of the country (Mthuli Ncube, 2021). The NDS1 pace of recovery will be determined by the global economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic (Mthuli Ncube, 2021).
According to Mazikana (2017) the State of Zimbabwe’s economy during 2017 was beyond collapse, as many industries and companies in Zimbabwe closed down due to poor economic policies, political instability, unbalanced productivity growth, liquid crunch, low domestic demand, lack of funding, unsustainable wages, a fall in demand and globalization. NDS1 was aimed to deliver broad-based transformation changes and achieve a Turning Zimbabwe into a Jewel of Africa by 2030.
